Rebound (bleed) Adjustment

Note: Due to your particular design of pinwheel adjuster, you have double the sweeps that the below “normal” type has.

Sample above illustrates typical adjustments of the rebound (bleed) screw through most of its functional range. The red trace ( 0 ) is when the adjuster is fully closed (maximum clockwise) and the pink trace represents the values with the rebound adjuster set at –20 sweeps (holes).

Found on end of spindle shaft. Adjuster can be turned using a pin (approx. 1.5mm diameter) to rotate and adjuster nut which has 6 holes. No “clicks” will be felt. To rotate by one hole is called “1 sweep”.

Maximum dampening is achieved by turning the adjuster maximum clockwise direction until bottoming out (the adjuster will bottom inside the shockabsorber before it bottoms onto the shaft. This position is called “0”.

Turning the adjuster anti-clockwise will soften the dampening, and if softened by 6 sweeps, this position is called “-6”. “0” to “-21” (3.5 turns) is the range of adjustment. The adjuster can be turned further but no further dampening changes occur.

It should be noted that this adjustment allows shockabsorber oil to bypass the piston / shim assembly in 2 directions, which means the dampening rate of both bump and rebound will be affected with this adjustment. It is because of this, that this adjustment is quite powerful.

A typical rebound (bleed) adjustment for a shockabsorber being used on a gravel surface would be in the range of “-8” to “-21”, and for tarmac use “-1” to “-8”.
