Camber Washers Explained

A feature of the MCA Pro Sport, Pro Comfort and Red Series suspension that hasn’t been seen before on any other shock absorber package in the same price range is our very own design of Bolt-In Camber Washers taken straight from our top-end Gold Series products. These washers hold your camber setting perfectly and consistently as opposed to a typical slotted hole, and along with the small locating screws they can not spin or rotate once in place, nor can they fall out of the shock and get lost when the shock is removed from the car.

Because most customers will not have seen these before I’ve included a diagram below to show how they work. The basic explanation is that you are supplied a series of camber washers with different centre hole offsets (0, 1 mm, 2mm and sometimes 3mm). Depending on which camber washers you use, and the way in which you mount them, they will change the amount of camber you have.

Each camber washer is clearly marked so you don’t have to measure them to find out which one is which. An example of the markings is “14-1” which means it has a 14mm hole and that hole is 1mm offset from the centre of the washer. Your camber washers could also be marked as “12-1” which means it has a 12mm hole. You will notice that the “-1”, “-2” and “-3” camber washers have two small mounting holes as opposed to the “-0” which only has one. This is so you can either mount the washer so the offset hole is inwards from the centre which will move the top of the wheel inwards (giving more negative camber or less positive camber) and also so you can mount the washer so the offset hole is outwards from the centre which will move the top of the wheel outwards (giving less negative camber or more positive camber).

Lastly, the small screws that hold the camber washers in require a 4mm alien key (hex key) and do not need to be very tight as the main bolt that goes through both camber washers and mount the shock to the car will hold them in properly. The small screws are only there to stop the camber washers from being able to spin or rotate or fall out when the shock is removed from the car.
